Tinos was named after King Tinos, son of Cooconos or Kyknos (i.e. Swan). He was the first inhabitant of the island and the leader of a group of legionaries who lived here in prehistoric times. We are from Tinos, we love our island and we strongly believe in promoting our heritage through our identity. The design of the villa, the logo and the visual identity are inspired by our name, the Swan, the motifs of the dovecotes and the ornate acorns on the roofs of the island.

BIOCLIMATIC DESIGN
Coocono Villas complex incorporates bioclimatic architectural design in both indoor and outdoor areas. Through this, the aim is to ensure thermal and visual comfort conditions, with the – as far as possible – extensive use of passive heating – cooling and lighting systems.
In order to achieve that, maximum use is made of solar energy, renewable energy sources, the local climate and, in particular, the microclimate of the area. A careful selection of all building materials has also been carried out and they have been distributed according to their properties, their usefulness, their naturalness, as well as their environmental friendliness.
Coocono Villas endorses the principles of ecology and sustainability by prioritizing the protection of the environment and the rational use of natural resources.
More specifically:
1) The precise eastern position – direction of the building, gives the opportunity to store “fresh” sun and solar power, flooding the space with light and thermal energy.
This thermal energy is “trapped” inside the rooms of the complex, depending on the season, and is retained for the rest of the day due to the “shell” that has been clad on all the external walls.
The largest facade of the building is oriented towards the south with a divergence of up to 30 degrees to the east.
The north-western side of the building is “caressed” by the northern Cycladic wind, the “Meltemi”, which maintains a thermal balance inside and outside the building.
2) The prominent use of natural wood from the Meranti type of wood for the pergolas, placed at a distance to achieve proper shading, natural ventilation and discreet brightness, to the Doussié type wooden surfaces, used for the deck of the pool and the outdoor shower, it is achieved enviromental friendliness, harmonization with the rest of the landscape and aesthetic excellence.
3) The use of tapestry made of natural materials, in most interiors, creates a calmness in the space and combines high aesthetics with the maintenance of sound and heat protection.
4) The exterior walls of the building have been clad with a “shell”. The use of certified thermo-insulating external frames and large openings, help to ensure natural daily light and heat energy.
5) The architectural structure of the building has the most suitable shape for a residence with elongation along the axis from east to west. It has large openings to the south and smaller openings to the north.
6) Passive heating systems are used, which operate without mechanical components or additional energy supply, but naturally heat and cool the building. These are: solar heating systems, natural ventilation and cooling systems and techniques, natural lighting techniques, cross-ventilation of the building, wooden shades.
With the above mentioned use of systems, the limited use of conventional heating units and air conditioning units is ensured.
In conclusion
Coocono Villas complex ensures natural sunlight during the winter months, protection from strong winds, without much relative loss of the view of the building, minimizing heat loss, protection from the summer sun, exploitation of the cool winds in the summer, and removal of excess heat in the summer months.
Thus, the appropriate conditions are provided so that residents can enjoy a mild – mild winter, but at the same time a cool summer, always respecting the natural environment and exploiting natural energy sources.

ACTIVITIES
Rock climbing
Local outdoor activity providers will take you on a rock-climbing experience on the granite hill of Exomvourgo, the capital of the island. You might come across remains of ancient Greek settlements and Venetian castles during your climb and will get to do some adrenalin filled top-rope climbing in complete safety, as you explore some of the 90 climbing routes available.
Scuba Diving
Get in touch with a diving company and instructor on the island and ask them to see some of the underwater attractions available, including shipwrecks in the deep to the colorful biodiversity, remains of an ancient harbor, stunning cliffs below sea level, coastal caves and much more. You’ll be amazed by the variety that this lesser-known island offers in the depths of its waters.
Hiking
You’ll be surprised to know that Tinos has as many as 150 kilometers of hiking paths that crisscross its landscapes, unveiling attractions and vistas on one of the most authentic, unspoiled islands in the Cyclades. Hiking is particularly a great off-season activity, beyond the heat of July and August. You can walk by yourself or call on one of the hiking companies that will gladly take you on some of the most attractive routes on offer.
Jazz festival
In recent years, towards the end of August, a jazz festival known as Jazz on Tinos takes place under the starry skies of this culturally inspired island. A wide range of music styles are generally presented, attracting an international set of musicians from different corners of the world, but also from the island itself! The festival takes place at the Cultural Foundation of Tinos, just a short walk from Coocono. Ask the management if the festival is on this year!
Cooking classes
Cycladic cuisine, similar to the equally good but more famous Cretan cuisine, is one of the healthiest in the world. Fresh ingredients, slow cooking and lots of vegetables from artichokes to string beans make their way into Tinian dishes, along with herbs such as oregano and thyme. Different small businesses offer classes and gastronomic experiences that will definitely enlighten your culinary knowledge, as well as palate.
Horseback-riding
The experience of riding horses on a Greek island is unique, thanks to the varying landscapes that combine open vistas of the sea with coasts, mountains, other islands in the distance, and a serenity that becomes almost spiritual. Tinos is a magical place in this sense, offering old hiking paths and sparsely populated villages that are worth discovering on horseback. Get in touch with us for more.
Day tours to Mykonos and Delos

The famous island of Mykonos is dynamic, vibrant and quite busy, ideal for a day tour that will reveal one of Greece’s most famous islands. Marble Art and Sculpting
Tinos has a very strong history in marble and has contributed to marble sculpting and art since ancient times, thanks to its rich quarries of both white and green marble. There are unique workshops, classes and vocational schools that deal with marble on the island, ideal for those wishing to spend more than just a few days on Tinos.
Pottery making

Visits to “pigeon houses”
For hundreds of years, the locals of Tinos have been building small two-floor “houses” for pigeons with numerous pigeonholes that form inspiring patters. These abodes are famed for their traditional designs and folk art, immediately recognizable as a feature of some of the Cycladic islands. Tinos is the most famous of these islands, featuring the highest number of pigeon houses.
Massage, Yoga and Gym
For the more agile and holistic among our friends, Tinos offers several yoga studios and massage parlors that easily add a more healthy and relaxing dimension to your stay on the island. For those who don’t want to interrupt their gym fitness sessions, we’ll be happy to arrange access to a nearby gym as well.
